Two "Join Hands Day" projects will have been completed while this bulletin is in the mail. Jack Kidd Council provided $1000 to plant a garden at the new UCT Center and for a garden at the SJRH Pediatrics floor. These projects are being organized by Sister Willie Pugh.

? Birthdays are taken from the membership list as received from Columbus. Perhaps there was a mistake in entering your birthday. If you feel this might affect your insurance should a claim be necessary you should probably contact either the Calgary or Columbus office.
? We now have 319 members--each with a different birthday. I can only remember my own.

Showers of Gifts
Wow! Last month we decided to have a shower for the kitchen at the council meeting rooms. Thanks to the ladies of Jack Kidd Council it was a great success. Fun, drinks, games, laughter, friendship, food, giggles and just plain silliness led to a kitchen now stocked with all we need.
Thank you on behalf of the social committee for always making the planning for these functions easy. You all never cease to amaze me with your generosity.
Sisters Alice, Veniene and Debbie.

Portage Atlantic __What Is It ?
Portage is an internationally recognized charitable organization dedicated to addressing the serious problem of substance abuse. Portage Atlantic was organized in the early 1990's. A
facility was opened at Cassidy Lake in 1996, near Sussex , welcoming youth between the ages of 14 and 21 in need of drug addiction treatment. Since that beginning a total of 792 youth have received treatment there at an average stay of about 6 months.

Portage has entered into agreements with the NB Department of Education, Health and Wellness, and Public Safety to fund the major part of its annual budget. Clients arriving from other provinces are supported by agreements with their respective governments. Portage residential treatment facility is aging and no longer able to meet the demands of a growing population of young people who need its services.

A major renovation is estimated to cost $1.25 million and Jack Kidd council has voted to donate $10,000 to this facility. Bro. Wes Cosman, Chair of the Drug Awareness Committee, will have further info on this at the next meeting.

Thanks From the Ladies

"Ladies Night" was a real treat provided by the men of Jack Kidd Council. Our gentlemen cooked us a wonderful roast beef dinner with all the trimmings and served it in style. The tables were beautifully set, we were presented with a rose and entertained with a program of real interest to women. It was truly a special way for the new executive to begin their year in the beautiful new facility. On behalf of all the ladies a great big "Thank You "to Bro . Brian Butler and Bro. Doug Melvin for organizing the evening and to all the men for making the evening special .

Safety Posters

Once again Sister June Klausen organized great results with 8 schools participating in the local safety poster contest. The winners chosen from 226posters will be forwarded to Atlantic Grand in Fredericton for competition there. There were some very good posters on some new safety issues. Congratulations to winners and thanks to Sister June for her hard work.

Relay for Life

Brother Doug Henderson is looking for team members for the Relay for Life to be
held at the Canada Games Stadium on June 08. Please contact him if you would like to join the group at this annual event in support of cancer research and treatment.
