Drug Awareness Committee Activities
Portage Graduation
Six members of council attended the Graduation / Recognition ceremonies at the Hampton High School on Sept. 30. The auditorium was filled to capacity with family members and supporters of the forty young people who had finished the rehabilitation course for drug and alcohol addiction at the Cassidy Lake facility. This was a very moving ceremony as each received their certificate and briefly told how the Portage program had helped them get control of their lives.
Portage Appreciation Day
Donors who have supported the capital campaign "Making Miracles Happen" for Portage Atlantic were guests at an Appreciation Day on Wed., Oct.10 at Kingswood Lodge , Fredericton. Dr. Russell King, Board Chairperson, presented a plaque to Jack Kidd Council in recognition of the $10,000 donation made to the campaign.
"Do Your Own Time"---Ross Mervyn
Jack Kidd Council will sponsor Ross Mervyn with his presentation ''Do Your Own Time" once again this year. Ross will give his presentation in several schools in Districts 6 and 8 as well as to the Rothesay & SaintJohn Police Forces and to the Portage Atlantic Drug Rehab. facility at Cassidy Lake. Ross will be in the area Oct. 22 to Oct. 26.
