A Brief History

United Commercial Travelers is a fraternal benefit organization, founded in Ohio in 1888, by a group of traveling salesmen. The goal was to provide protection for the families and widows of the salesmen, as they had no other form of insurance.
Today U.C.T. is still basically an insurance organization; but, more and more, and particularily in Canada, people join the organization for the fraternalism. Our main function now is to raise money and use that money to help the mentally challenged, youth, cancer victims and others in society in need of assistance.
In Saint John, our council was chartered in 1950 by 26 members, led by Jack Kidd. One of Jack’s first initiatives was to organize Little League Baseball which we are proud to have founded and supported continuously since that time. When Jack passed away in 1995, the local Saint John Council was renamed to Jack Kidd Council 755.

In 1995, we began the UCT TV Bingo on Cable 10, Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm. The proceeds from this event allow us to support a broad spectrum of organizations.
